Well now as the quarter ends, I have finished/begun more books.  I started an old favorite called Mysteries of the Unknown, I collection of stories from the legends of Atlantis, to the Flying Dutchman, to the Nazi search for ancient secrets and mysterious powers of the occult.  It has a lot of strange and interesting views on these unexplained events, and I enjoy them a lot.  I have also began reading more books on the Civil War, where it shows views of the confederate government and my heros Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee.

Again, I'm starting and finishing several books.  I started a new book that a friend lent me, called the Art of thinking.  Its a very Christian book, that is very enjoyable.  So far it has quoted the book of the Exodus at least ten times.  I find that very interesting, because I haven't read that book in at least a year in a half.  I have also finished Journey to the Centre of the Earth (finally.)  It was very good, and i enjoyed it very much.  At about the middle, the Professor actually showed signs of fear.  They had gotten to an underground cavern with a sea, geyser, petrified trees and amazingly natural light.  Some of the particles in the top of the cavern became electrified producing natural light.  This shows again how Verne predicted more scientific discoveries.  Electricity powered machines were literally science fiction at this time, to think that he actually predicted this is quite amazing.  I guess the future really is todays science fiction.

20,000 leagues under the sea.  I gave the convention a break and started picking up my favorite author, Jules Verne, again.  Aboard the Nautilus Mr. Land, Professor Arronax and Conseil, are having just a beautiful time aboard the ship. Yeah Right.  The Way Mr. Verne wrote this book, is that it doesn't have a set plot its more like different adventures that resolve themselves.  I have just reread the chapter on when our heroes went ashore to an island inhabited by cannibals.  Now they didn't really comprehend the severity of going on this island, but went ashore to gather specimens.  They are discovered by the Cannibals and return safely to the Nautilus. The Professor and Conseil begin to gather shells from the Nautilus while the Cannibals linger on the beach trying to devise a plan.  This goes on for several days, till amazingly our heroes discover a rare shell.  While they celebrate, the cannibals attack the ship with boarding parties and arrows. One lucky arrow nails the the shell and shatters it.  Captain Nemo  saves are heroes and the cannibals retreat to the island.

Back to Philadelphia.   So now this book has shown me the tragedy that is befalling America post war under the Articles of Confederation.  Our economy is faulting, the people our loosing faith and our politicians  are agreeing less than usual.  Congress still has no power to collect taxes, so our soldiers still haven't been paid.  Riots and Rebellions are popping up everywhere.  Gee were sure in good shape.  Congress, located in New York of all places, has finally allowed for a Convention to "Revise and Edit the Articles of Confederation."  The delegates slowly gathered in Philadelphia and elected Washington the President of the Convention.  Poor Mr. Washington has had a terrible time.  Nine years of wars, the death of his favorite brother, and not being home has left him reluctant and tired.  However his honor and duty gave him the strength to go to the convention.  55 delegates were elected from all states, except Rhode Island, were sent, but all were never there.  The convention started in May, and some didn't get their till August.   What a mess!

So now during break I started another book.  It is entitled "Miracle at Philadelphia."  It is a very very accurate account of the 1787 Constitutional convention.  I, a lover of American History, am as-well in love with this book.  It is so interesting, seeing how our founding fathers and not so famous ones, George Mason, James Wilson, etc. fused their highly nationalist minds into making a document that has been arguably the most influential  document of one American history and our worlds history.  These absolutely  brilliant men crafted such an important document, but at the same time their anger and frustration, matched only by their brilliance, could have very well created a convention a fiasco, stead of success.

American Business where are the Ethics

Business and ethics, two words that don’t always seem to go together. Today, many Americans lives are controlled by how our businesses do. If they succeed then our economy gets better. But what is the price we pay for our businesses. With more and more control going to our businesses instead of to our government, many Americans are worried about when business will have too much (Norris, “Business ethics and other oxymorons’s”). Many business aren’t taking care of its employees any more.

So I've been reading Jules Verne a lot now, and so I've started another of his books, 20,000 leagues under the sea.  This book is by far my favorite book and I like my copy of i, because it is really, really old and you get a better translation of it.  My copy of Journey to the Centre of the Earth is far more modern, and not nearly as authentic.  I like Verne's writing a lot and I think he is one of the greatest authors of all time.  In 20,000 leagues, I love how you relate to the antagonist, Captain Nemo, because he's not really a villain even though he is suppose to be.
